Steve’s professional career began in 1986 as a Trust Officer for AmSouth Bank following his graduation from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. In 1989 he joined Rick at Morgan Keegan and began their over three-decade long partnership. Rick and he founded Smith Thornton Advisors in 2011. Steve is Managing Principal along with Will. In addition to managing the firm, Steve leads Workplace Retirement Solutions with a focus on plan design, fiduciary oversight and high-level plan consulting. He holds the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) designation, the Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor (CPFA) designation, and is a member of the National Association of Plan Advisors (NAPA) and the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA). He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Huntsville Museum of Art, serves on the Board of Control at the Von Braun Center (VBC), and serves on the board of the Huntsville Sports Commission.
